secureInput

Returns 1 when the Mac is in Secure Input mode and 0 otherwise.

Keyboard Maestro: SECUREINPUT

Details #

secureInput() takes no arguments and returns 1 or 0. Secure Input is on while a password field or a terminal's Secure Keyboard Entry has the keyboard to itself. While it is on, macOS hides keystrokes from other apps, so hotkeys and typing automation can stop working.

Parameters #

Takes 0 arguments. {{ secureInput() }}

Examples #

secureInput()
→ 0
secureInput() == 1 ? "blocked" : "clear"
→ clear

Gotchas #

  • Calling it with an argument is an error: secureInput() takes 0 arguments, got 1.

  • A 1 that never clears usually means some app left Secure Input on. Switchboard's permissions troubleshooting guide can show who holds it.

  • With nothing real to read, the answer is 0.
