atan

Returns the arctangent of a number, as an angle in radians.

Keyboard Maestro: ATAN

Details #

atan(x) takes exactly one argument, any number, and returns an angle in radians between -1.5708 and 1.5708.

For an angle from an x and y pair that tells the quadrant, use atan2.

Parameters #

Takes 1 argument. {{ atan(text) }}

Examples #

atan(0)
→ 0
round(atan(1) * 4, 4)
→ 3.1416

Gotchas #

  • Calling it with no argument or two arguments is an error: atan() takes 1 argument, got 2.

  • Anything that isn't a number is an error: atan() needs a number, got text. Numeric text such as "0.5" is accepted.
