addressBook

Returns a field of your own card in Contacts.

Keyboard Maestro: AddressBook

Details #

addressBook() and addressBook(field) take zero or one argument and return text from your own card in the Contacts app.

field is one of first, last, nickname, company, jobtitle, email, phone, address, note, birthday or url (case and spaces are ignored; firstname, lastname, organization, title and birthdate also work). email, phone and url give the first one on the card, address the first address formatted. Leave it out, or use any other word, for the full name.

Parameters #

Takes 0 to 1 argument. {{ addressBook(text?) }}

Examples #

addressBook("email")

addressBook()

Gotchas #

  • It reads Contacts through Automation, so Switchboard needs permission to control Contacts. If that is denied, or you have no card set as yours, it returns empty text.

  • It reads your own card only, never other contacts.

  • Waits up to 5 seconds for Contacts before giving up with empty text.
