applications

Details #

applications() takes no arguments and returns a number: how many running apps are of the ordinary kind (the ones that can show a Dock icon). Background helpers and menu bar only apps are not counted.

Gotchas #

• Calling it with any argument is an error: applications() takes 0 arguments, got 1.

• When no real Mac is behind it (tests, previews) or the Mac can't answer, it returns 0.
