askUser

Shows a dialog asking for a line of text and returns what you typed.

Details #

askUser(prompt) and askUser(prompt, default) take one or two arguments and return text. A dialog appears with the prompt and a text field filled with default (empty if you leave it out); the result is what was typed.

Parameters #

Takes 1 to 2 arguments. {{ askUser(text, b?) }}

Examples #

askUser("Your name?", "Ada")
→

Gotchas #

  • The macro waits for the dialog for up to five minutes.

  • Cancelling, or letting it time out, returns empty text. It looks the same as an empty answer.

  • For a prompt that returns a variable and has buttons, use the prompt step instead.
