Selection Bar
When the selection bar shows, where it stays away, and which actions it lists.
Select text in any app and a slim bar of actions appears above it. Every icon is a macro that takes the selection.
What's here #
Show bar: automatically after a drag, double or triple click or Shift-arrow; only when you hold Option; or only with a hotkey.
Never show in: apps where the bar stays away. Terminals, the Finder and Screen Sharing start here, and games are always skipped.
Copy to read: Chromium and Electron apps often hide the selection. For these the bar presses Command-C, reads it and puts your clipboard back within a third of a second.
Selection length: the fewest and most characters a selection can have.
Search the web: the engine for the Search icon.
Order: which actions come first. The bar shows eight, and the rest are behind its arrow.
Tricks #
Command-1 to Command-8 runs the matching icon.
File, New, Selection Action makes your own icon.
With the hotkey mode, pick a key the front app doesn't use, since it reaches the app too.
