General

Startup, the menu bar glyph and where on-screen messages appear.

The basics of how Switchboard sits on your Mac: whether it starts with you, whether it shows in the menu bar, and where its short messages show up.

What's here #

Startup has Open at login. If macOS wants your approval, a line under the switch says so and Open Login Items… takes you to System Settings.

Menu bar has Show Switchboard in the menu bar. The glyph shows whether the engine is running, paused or held by secure input.

On-screen messages has the HUD position, which is where the brief messages from macros appear. They never take focus and stack when several arrive. Say when held runs go shows one message with a count when the Mac can do what a held run was waiting for.

Tricks #

  • Turn the menu bar glyph off and Switchboard has no icon there. Turn it back on here.

  • Any Settings page has an address of the form switchboard://settings/<id>, for example switchboard://settings/general.
