Say aloud
Speaks text with a macOS system voice.
Say text aloud
Keyboard Maestro: SpeakText, Speak
Details #
Reads text aloud with the system speech synthesizer. The step waits for the speech to finish, so the next step starts after the last word. The output is the text spoken.
Parameters #
| Parameter | Type | Required | Values | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
text | text | Yes | Required and not empty. | |
rate | number | From 0 (slowest) to 1 (fastest). Values outside that range are clamped. Leave it out for the voice's normal speed. | ||
voice | text | A voice name or identifier, or a language code such as en-GB. Leave it out for the system voice. A name that matches no voice falls back to the language lookup. |
Every step also accepts label, onFailure, timeout and dryRunSafe.
Examples #
Announce that a build is done
Do
- Say “The build is done”
Gotchas #
A dry run does not speak. The trace shows the step as simulated.
Like Ask for input, it has no 10 s default limit: it may run until the macro's own timeout (60 s unless you changed it). A long text on a slow
ratecan hit that limit.
