Read recent notifications
Reads the notifications the Mac delivered lately, newest first, so a macro can summarise what you missed.
Read the app notifications from the last within
Details #
Reads from the same place as the App notification trigger, the Notification Center database, so it needs Full Disk Access for Switchboard Engine. The trigger never replays history; this step is how a macro gets at it: "when my Focus ends, tell me what came in".
app limits it to one app's bundle id. within says how far back: 30m, 2h, 1d, a number of seconds, or nothing for as far as the database goes. limit is how many at most (default 50, at most 500).
The step's output is { "notifications": [...], "count": n }. Each notification has app, appName, title, subtitle, body, at (an ISO date), silenced and link. into receives the list itself.
Parameters #
| Parameter | Type | Required | Values | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
app | text | Bundle id of one app. Every app when left out. | ||
into | text | The variable that receives the list. | ||
limit | number | The most notifications to return, newest first. Default 50. | ||
sample | any value | What into holds during a dry run. | ||
within | any value | How far back to look, such as 30m, 2h or 1d. |
Every step also accepts label, onFailure, timeout and dryRunSafe.
Examples #
- Read the Slack notifications from the last “1h”
- Show “{{ length(missed) }} from Slack”
Gotchas #
Without Full Disk Access the step fails and says to allow it. Banners are not stored anywhere, so there is no fallback.
Notifications from Switchboard itself are left out.
Only what macOS kept: it trims old notifications, so a long
withinmay return fewer than you expect.
