Open a layer
Opens a group's layer so its macros answer to bare keys, from a palette row, a gesture or another layer's key.
Open the layer of group
Keyboard Maestro: Activate for one action, Palette of macros
Details #
Opens the layer of a Group, as if you had pressed the Group's layer hotkey. While it is live, the macros in that Group answer to their plain keys and nothing else runs. A HUD lists the keys when the Group's Show the keys is on. See Layers for the three modes.
Name the Group by its name or id. It must have a Layer in its inspector, be turned on and be in scope for the front app, or the step fails and says which. Layers open once at a time: opening one while another is live replaces it.
A layer that waits for the key you hold (While held) has nothing to release when a step opens it, so a step opens it as Next key instead. Give mode to override the Group's own.
The step does nothing while secure input is on, and fails with a note saying so.
- Open the “Git” layer (until Esc)
Parameters #
| Parameter | Type | Required | Values | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
group | text | Yes | Required. The Group's name or id. | |
mode | one of | next hold sticky | next, hold or sticky. Default: the Group's own mode. |
Every step also accepts label, onFailure, timeout and dryRunSafe.
Gotchas #
Layers nest once. A macro in a layer may open another layer (Hyper+S, then G, then J), but a macro in that second layer may not open a third. The library check says so.
A dry run only notes that it would open the layer.
