Time of day

Runs the macro at a time of day, on chosen weekdays, or on a cron schedule.

It is at

Keyboard Maestro: Time, Cron

Details #

Give either at (a 24-hour HH:MM time) with optional days, or a cron expression. If cron is set it wins over at. A time trigger with neither never fires. Times use the Mac's current time zone.

Cron. Five fields: minute, hour, day of month, month, day of week. Fields accept *, ?, lists (1,15), ranges (1-5), steps (*/10) and names (jan, mon). Day of week 0 and 7 are both Sunday. When both day of month and day of week are restricted, either one matching is enough, as in classic cron. A sixth field is read as a trailing year when it is * or a year from 1970 on (Keyboard Maestro style); any other sixth field is read as a leading seconds field. A bad expression never fires.

Missed times. If the Mac was asleep or Switchboard was not running at the due time, the occurrence is skipped when it is more than 60 seconds late. Set catchUp to true to run it once, late, instead of skipping. Several missed occurrences run once, not once each.

{{triggerValue}} is empty. Use the {{now}} token or date for the time.

Secure input does not affect this trigger.

Parameters #

ParameterTypeRequiredValuesWhat it does
attextTime as HH:MM, 24-hour.
catchUpyes / noRun once after a missed time instead of skipping it. Off by default.
crontextA cron expression. Replaces at and days.
dayslist ofmon tue wed thu fri sat sunWeekdays to run on: mon to sun. Leave out for every day.

Every trigger also takes Limits: a cooldown, the first time each day, every nth time, twice within seconds, a chance, only while you are at the Mac, on one Mac, or in a State. See Limits on any trigger.

Examples #

Weekday standup reminder
When
  1. Every weekday at 09:30
Do
  1. Show a notification “Standup in 5 minutes”
Open in Switchboard to try it
Every 15 minutes at work
When
  1. On a custom schedule
Do
  1. Show “Quarter-hour check”
Open in Switchboard to try it

Gotchas #

  • A Mac that is asleep at the time does not run the macro unless catchUp is on.

  • Changing a trigger's parameters schedules it again from now.

  • Not fired reasons: disabled, groupOff, scope, paused, conditionFalse.
