Clipboard change

Runs the macro whenever the clipboard contents change.

The clipboard changes

Keyboard Maestro: Clipboard

Details #

Switchboard checks the clipboard about every three quarters of a second and fires when its change counter moves, which means after any copy or cut, by you or by another app. The value is not in the trigger: read it in the macro with the {{clipboard}} token, or with the Clipboard step. By default it fires on every copy; give it kinds to limit it to copies of certain things, such as links: {"kinds": ["url"]}. The kinds are url (a link), color, code, image and text. A copy the engine itself marked transient (the result of a clipboard action) or concealed (a password manager's) never fires it, so a macro that rewrites what you copy does not loop. With the clipboard step's transform, "links copied in Safari get their tracking stripped" is one macro (see Clipboard actions).

{{triggerValue}} is empty.

Secure input does not affect this trigger.

Parameters #

ParameterTypeRequiredValues

Every trigger also takes Limits: a cooldown, the first time each day, every nth time, twice within seconds, a chance, only while you are at the Mac, on one Mac, or in a State. See Limits on any trigger.

Gotchas #

  • Two copies within the check interval can count as one.

  • Not fired reasons: disabled, groupOff, scope, paused, conditionFalse.
