uuid

A new random identifier each time it is read.

Details #

Use it anywhere a {{ }} expression is allowed, as {{uuid}} in a step's text or as uuid inside a longer expression. It also works as a call, uuid(). Every read returns a fresh lowercase UUID, such as 3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4e07-b1c5-7a6d2e90f4b3. Use it for unique file names or tags.

A run variable with the same name wins. If a step stores something in a variable called uuid, {{uuid}} reads that variable, not the live value. Name your own variables something else.

Parameters #

Write it as {{uuid}} in any text field. A variable of the same name wins.

Examples #

"note-" + uuid + ".txt"
→ note-3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4e07-b1c5-7a6d2e90f4b3.txt

  1. Show “Your id: {{uuid}}”

Gotchas #

  • Two {{uuid}} in the same text are two different values. Store one in a variable to reuse it.
