Coming from Raycast

How Raycast's script commands, quicklinks, snippets and extensions map to Switchboard, and the hotkeys Raycast keeps encrypted.

Raycast lets out script commands (they are plain files), quicklinks and snippets (a JSON export). It keeps hotkeys, aliases and favourites in an encrypted store and in a password-protected .rayconfig, so Switchboard cannot read those and never asks for the password. The review ends with a worksheet: every imported command with an empty hotkey for you to fill in.

Choose File › Import… and pick your script commands folder, or the JSON file from Raycast › Settings › Advanced › Export. From the terminal: switchboard import --raycast <folder or file> [--dry].

Script commands #

A script with # @raycast.title (or // @raycast.title) headers becomes a macro in a group named for its packageName. Its arguments become the macro's inputs, passed to the script as $1, $2; a percentEncoded argument is encoded first, a dropdown becomes a choice, and the script runs in the shell or interpreter its first line names.

inlineruns on its refresh time, switched off, with a menu bar note: Switchboard has no inline items

needsConfirmation asks first. currentDirectoryPath is kept. {{ inside a script is escaped so it is not read as an expression.

A quicklink becomes an Open URL macro. {Query} and {argument name="x" default="y"} become inputs; {Clipboard Text} becomes the clipboard. {Selected Text} and the other placeholders are noted in the review. Raycast keeps a quicklink's alias in its encrypted store, so a quicklink has no keyword here unless the export has one: it is found by name and offered as a fallback search when it takes a query. Set a keyword in the macro.

Snippets and extensions #

Snippets go to the snippet importer (see Coming from TextExpander or Alfred). If you point Import at Raycast's extensions folder (~/.config/raycast/extensions), the review names each extension and whether the Gallery has an equivalent (Linear, Jira, Things, Sonos, Home Assistant, OBS, 1Password). Raycast extensions are React code for Raycast's own runtime and do not run here.
